Mum's 80th Birthday

Last Thursday saw the advent of my Mum's 80th Birthday. Sadly, because of the present circumstances we were not able to celebrate it with her. However, I did make her a special card and I created an afternoon tea for her to enjoy in the comfort of her own home. On the tray I placed an old teapot that's part of my collection. It used to belong to my Nan and so I thought that it would be fitting to use it on my Mum's special day. I also placed a cup/saucer and a cake fork so that it would all add to the experience. I didn't provide masses of food because I knew my Mum would not have eaten it all. I just did the usual sandwiches, fruit and some cake.
I popped the tray round to her along with her cards, presents, flowers and left them in her lobby for her to fetch. We did manage to see her as she was actually chatting to a neighbour, so keeping our social distance of course, we wished her a Happy Birthday.

She was very happy to see us even if it was briefly, and she loved all of her surprises. Of course, when we are allowed to get together again properly we will have a celebration for her. She understood that it had to be this way. I will be taking her for a proper Afternoon Tea in the future and I'm sure that we are all hoping and praying that it will come very soon, but only when it is safe to do so.

I bought her this gorgeous, cheerful plant.

Here's the card that I made using the stamp set called 'Free as a Bird' from Stampin' Up! I also used the matching Designer Series Paper called 'Bird Ballad' and the ' Shimmer Detailed Laser Cut Speciality Paper'.

Sadly, we don't stock any number dies at the moment so I used a retired set. The birds and all of the flowers were fussy cut by hand, after colouring them in with Stampin' Blends. The key was out of my own stash of jewellery charms.

I hope that during this lock down you're finding ways to cope with it on a daily basis. There's not much we can do about it other than do what the government advise and pray for a good outcome very soon. My sincere sympathies are with the those families who have already lost their loved ones, and my thoughts and prayers are for everyone else to stay safe and ride the storm.
