Tropical Paradise

Here in the UK as usual in February, the weather is not being kind. Twice this week alone we have had high storms with the winds gusting above 50 mph. The blessing is that in a month's time the weather will likely to have changed for the better. Spring will definitely be on it's way, and hopefully if the last few years are anything to go by, we will have a warm, sunny March. Anyway, the best thing about bad weather is the fact that we can stay warm and dry in our craft rooms. This week's classes were certainly warming up a bit, as we used the 'Timeless Tropical' stamp set from Stampin' Up!

My favourite card that we made was one that I designed and made. I got my inspiration from the Coastal Weave embossing folder that's in the 'Tropical Oasis' Suite from Stampin' Up! It reminded me very much of a beach mat or a mat that you would find in a tropical sanctuary somewhere. I ran a piece of Crumb Cake card stock through the embossing folder which had been inked with Soft Suede ink. I then just 'fringed' the edges to make it look  more like a mat. I mounted this on a piece of Smoky Slate card stock that was run through the 'Pinewood Planks embossing folder that was inked with white Craft ink. This gave it a lovely white washed feel. I then added the gorgeous hibiscus and frangipani flowers and some leaves on the 'mat' layer.  These were all white embossed and coloured with ink and an aqua painter, and die cut out using the matching dies. I finished it off with one of the adorable trinket charms from the suite. The sentiment was from another stamp set and was embossed with the black shimmer embossing powder from Stampin' Up!

Whilst I was playing with the whole Tropical Oasis suite, I was experimenting with different ideas. I got some great inspiration from another demonstrator called Kelly Acheson. She created the gold foil pineapple card (the design) and I loved it! I then came up with the idea of using the Coastal Weave embossing folder with a piece of copper foil card. It's just so stunning and it really shows off the pattern of the folder. I just mirrored the decoration from the other one but obviously changed the colours.
